Troubleshooter of Error: all icons to word pad icons

all icons to word pad icons

Hi,
I was trying to open a document, and I was not sure of the programe to be opened with , so i opened it in word pad and probably I had clicked the box mentioning - open all similar files with the choice.......instanltly ALL ICONS ARE CHANGED TO WORD PAD ICONS......and
every programe opens in word pad.....Please Help me....

There's a few ways to fix this.  Here's what I would recommend trying:
Try repairing the association by downloading and running these files:
Repair LNK (Shortcut) File Associations
and
Repair EXE File associations

After you download and run both those links, try using your files again. 

If the problem still continues, I would recommend you to restore your system to before the problem occurred by going back to just before the problem began.
 Windows makes this easy and safe.
Here's how:
Press +R to show the Run box.Type RSTRUI and press OK.Choose the date and time you want to restore to (it will also tell you the names of any programs that were installed at that time).Click Next to restore your system to that time.
The best part about this, is that it's completely safe.
If you don't like the restore, you can undo it.
 Or you can try again with another date.
 It will not touch any of your personal files/pictures, it only restores system
settings back to their working condition.
 So this is truly the fastest, safest, and easiest way to get "back up and running" again.

Machine Throttling

• Go to the Start button.
• In the Search box, type "regedit" (without quotes) and press Enter.
• Look for the following registry key: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ SQMClient\Windows\DisabledSessions".
• On the right window pane, delete the subkey: "Machine Throttling".
• Reboot your system.
