Why does Remote Desktop Continually try reconnecting on Windows 7 64bit?

Hi

Every since I started using Windows 7 64bit several months ago my Remote Desktop Sessions to various Windows 2003 server regularly report that the connection has been lost and needs to re-connect.
The strange part is that my network connection is fine.
Other software running on the network do not report any network problems and Remote Desktops using Linux Mint work fine on the same network.

When the re-connection is made it sometimes does not reconnect to the existing session.
Instead it is as if I logged off the server and a new session is started.
If I look in the Terminal Services Manager my previous session is gone and all the applications
I was running on the server have been closed.

Previously I was using Windows 7 32bit and never had this problem.
I could stay connected all day and the only time I ever got a disconnection message was when the Internet actually went down.
