Manually editing the Windows registry to remove invalid MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION keys is not recommended unless you are PC service professional. Incorrectly editing your registry can stop your PC from functioning and create irreversible damage to your operating system. In fact, one misplaced comma can prevent your PC from booting entirely!

Caution: Unless you an advanced PC user, we DO NOT recommend editing the Windows registry manually. We do not guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To manually repair your Windows registry, first you need to create a backup by exporting a portion of the registry related to MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION (eg. Windows Operating System):

Click the Start button.
Type "command" in the search box... DO NOT hit ENTER yet!
While holding CTRL-Shift on your keyboard, hit ENTER.
You will be prompted with a permission dialog box.
Click Yes.
A black box will open with a blinking cursor.
Type "regedit" and hit ENTER.
In the Registry Editor, select the Error 0x9C-related key (eg. Windows Operating System) you want to back up.
From the File menu, choose Export.
In the Save In list, select the folder where you want to save the Windows Operating System backup key.
In the File Name box, type a name for your backup file, such as "Windows Operating System Backup".
In the Export Range box, be sure that "Selected branch" is selected.
Click Save.
The file is then saved with a .reg file extension.
You now have a backup of your MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION-related registry entry.

I have recently installed windows 7 on my HP pavillion Notebook.
And started having this problem about 3 weeks after.
I will go to a website and the video will freeze and the browser will become unresponsive.
When this happens, all programs that run a
video (like a game) or windows media player will not respond when open.
So i uninstall adobe completely and restart my computer.
Reinstall (have used different sources) and restart.
I will then be able to view videos (but the problem will return sometimes
in a hour some times in a couple of days) and I will have to restart the whole process again.
(i have tried clear my cache same problem)

To install drivers and other optional updates

To install optional updates, you need to review and then select them from the list of updates that Windows finds for your computer. Optional updates are not installed automatically.
Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking All Programs, and then clicking Windows Update.
In the left pane, click Check for updates, and then wait while Windows looks for the latest updates for your computer.
If any updates are found, click View available updates.
Select the optional updates that you want, and then click Install. Administrator permission required If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

You should be concerned! McAfee (and Norton) applications are notorious for not upgrading (or uninstalling) cleanly.

Download the McAfee Consumer Products Removal Tool, saving it to your desktop:

Don't Download Malware

Where are you getting the download?

There are malicious people who download valid copies of a popular download, modify the file with malicious software, and then upload the file with the same name. Make sure you are downloading from the developer's web page or a reputable company.

Cancel or deny any automatic download

Original Title: Signature Collision?
I am having difficulty installing a second external drive.
I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate RC.
There was one WD 1TB My Book drive already installed - healthy and functioning fine.
The problem occured after installing a second WD 1TB My Book drive.
I followed
all instructions, pluuging the drive into a USB Hub.
Windows discovered the drive, installed the drivers and reported the new drive ready for use.

Windows Explorer does not see the new drive.
Devices and Printers shows 2 external WD drives.
Disk managemant also shows 2 drives but the second drive is offline because of a "Signature Collision".

Each drive works fine if it is the only drive plugged in.
"Eject My Book" does not work because a program (or more) is using the drive in the background (Windows or Norton).

I've installed the latest firmware and am still having this problem.
I've been emailing WD with this problem and they have run out of ideas.

Can anyone help?

This is horrible advise unless you know the drive is empty. Use the Windows Diskpart command. Select the Offline Disk. Enter the command Online Disk. Diskpart is much more powerful than the Disk Management. I had this problem and Diskpart brought the
drive online with NO issues where Disk Manager continued reporting a Signature Collision.
Sorry to sound harsh but to format the disk? I would think removing the disk and doing an Import Foreign Media would probably work allowing you to then place the disk bakc into the original computer. If you still get Signature Collision...use the above
it works fine.
My Signature collision was cause by Acronis Disk Suite...HORRIBLE software if you have Windows 7....have had noting but problems...seems any disk it touches corrupts the MBR and Signaure area.
I had this exact same problem and I used this answer to help me.
In my case I left a second hard disk inside my drive when I rebuilt my primary disk with Windows 7.
The second drive wouldn't be seen in Windows Explorer, Disk Management showed me the disk
was present but "Offline due to Signature Collision" - there wasn't an option to make the disk go online via right click either.
I took the second disk to work, put it into a caddy and moved all the information off of it and then ran a full format.
Came back home and plugged it in but no joy.
I couldn't right click and make the disk go "online" again through Disk Management as before.
I ran across this answer through google and as a thank you will write up the process.
If you have the same problem of Signature Collision try to go to "Manage Computer" and then "Disk Management", find your drive and then right click to make it go "online".
If it wont work then go to a command prompt and type the following in " ", hit return
to move through:

"Disk Part"

(this brings up a separate window in Win 7)
"List Disk"
(This will show you which disks can by physically seen, offline and online)
"select disk X"
(Where x is the number of the disk you want to make online)
"online disk"
(This should bring you a message saying your disk is now online)
"Exit"
This takes you back to windows and you should now see your disk through Windows Explorer.

I have uploaded a file with some changes (click here). That file is an Excel 2003 file.

A significant change is: you do not need the table I suggested in X1:Y6. Your existing table in _Settings!$G$8:$M$13 will suffice.

I suspect that the values in P10 and R10 are mutually exclusive if both are specified. That is, if P10 is "All Categories", I suspect that R10 is "Media Related" or empty; and vice versa. I also suspect that P10 will never be empty when R10 is non-empty.
That is, you always use Category 1 first and only optionally also use Category 2.

Those observations might lead to some simplification of the formula. But I suspect only minor simplifications; for example, we probably do not need ``IF(P10="",0``. But we still need ``IF(R10="",0``.

If you confirm the observations above, I could look to see how much we can simplify the formula, if you wish. But I think it works well as is, and I suspect it is not overly complicated.

Note that I also made a number of other minor improvements in some unrelated formulas.

1.
I simplified the SUM formulas in C4 and G4. Note that SUM can have at least as many as 30 parameters (XL2003 limit). XL2007 might permit more. I don't know.

2.
I simplified the IF formulas in columns AP, AR and AZ. Let me know if you have any questions. In general, it is not necessary to test both of two complementary conditions. The change in column AZ also includes an arithmetic simplification.

3.
I changed the lower limits in G8 and G15 in the _Settings worksheet from 0.01 to 0.00. That also required a format change for 0 values (3rd field). Although column T in the "eBay Sales" worksheet might never be zero, it is better to have 0.00 in the lookup
table for technical reasons. "Defensive programming". Nevertheless, if you insist on 0.01, it
probably will work that way.

not make. I noticed some content in T1011:U1017 in the "eBay Sales" worksheet. I'm not sure what they are doing there; I did not find any formulas dependent on that data. I suspect it should be removed.

After I downloaded Explorer 9 - there is one web site that I cannot access.
I have a subscription to this site.
The web site pops up for about 5 seconds and then goes to an error message.

Windows Error Reporting - To Fix After installation of win 7 backup will not work. "The backup application could not start due to an internal error: The specified service does not exist as an installed service. (0x80070424).

Go to Start button.
Open Control Panel.
Go to Windows Error Reporting.
Click on System and Maintenance, then click Problem Reports and Solutions.
Next, click Change Settings located on the left side panel of the Problem Reports and Solutions window.
Select an option to configure how you want Windows to look for a solution to your problems. You may allow Windows to do it automatically or ask you every time to check if problem occurs.
Next, click the Advanced settings link.
Select Off to turn off Error Reporting.
