Fast Solution to Problem: 2007 save as 2003

2007 save as 2003

I got the error message when saving a 2007 workbook in 2003 format that "a reference was outside the sheet limits or function was not supported or formula limits not supported" etc,
I narrowed it down to this
In a new workbook Sheet 1 cell A1 the formula is =ADDRESS(2,1)
Which returns $A$2
Thats it nothing else
Trying to saveas 97-2003 results in the error message
I know this function is in the older version and the file is created when I click ok, so why am I getting the error message.

Excel 2010 has a slightly different message: "Defined names or formulas in this workbook may display different values when they are recalculated in an earlier version of Excel if they reference cells outside of the row and column limit of an earlier version",
which explains it a little better.
I assume that Excel's checking automatically chucks out that message when the ADDRESS function is used, as the check would not actually "calculate" the formula to find out whether your arguments fit within the boundaries of earlier versions.
