I am running XP Home SP3 on a hybrid system
ASUS P5QPL-AM
2GB RAM
I was running a 1 TB Seagate Drive and had a 3 month old cloned drive as a backup.
I arrived at my office one morning to find the system had rebooted (which does happen following some updates) Unfortunately The boot screen error was a miising or
corrupt file :
C:\windows\system32\config\system
I switched to my clone drive and everything ran fine....for a bit.
Then it crashed with the same boot error message.
 Could there be a bios issue?
I was able to run chkdsk /f from the repair module from orig CD.
System either will not boot (same error message or will randomly crash giving a variety of crash codes, but many link to a product code 768_1  I searched my registry and did not find anything with that name in it.

Boot in Safe Mode:

• Open Run command as previously described
• Type MSConfig
• Click on Boot tab
• Tick Safe boot in Boot option
• Select Network
• Click Apply and OK
• Reboot your system

Your system will boot in Safe mode with Networking. You may now try and open Windows Store and should not see any errors.
