Printer wont respond, after a different printer is used for a 1-off job

After I have used another printer, the default printer just wont print.  The printer is shown as ready, the document goes to it, but the printer just doesn't activate.
I have tried reinstalling, but its OK for a while, then gets upset when I use a different printer, attached just for the job by USB, then unplugged.  The default printer remains connected by its own USB connection, untouched.

That is generally the fault of the 'different' printer's drivers and is put in there by the printer manufacturer who would like you to use their printer as the default.  Nothing much you can do about it except complain to the 'different' printer manufacturer.
