After installing Windows 8.1 the system will not boot with the battery installed.
Original title: Windows 8.1 on older laptops.
The issue I am having is with a Dell Inspiron 1501.
During the install of Windows 8.1 the disk would never finish loading and just sat at the Windows loading screen for hours.
By mistake I was moving the laptop and the battery disconnected after reconnecting
the OS install went to the install now window.
After install the system will not boot with the battery installed.

I was not able to find Dell Inspiron 1550 on Dell
driver’s website.
When we look at the video I see its 1501 which is not so clear.
I can find model 1550 for
Dell
Vostro.
Please let us know the exact model number for Dell laptop.
You may face this issue if hardware drivers for Windows 8.1 is not updated or due to faulty motherboard in relation to the internal battery circuit & components.
Follow these methods and check if it helps:
Method 1: I would suggest you to install all the latest drivers from Dell drivers support site, manually and check if it helps.

Method 2: Most of this kind of issues are caused by the power management model of BIOS Update the latest BIOS for your Dell laptop and check if it helps.
I would suggest you to contact the computer manufacturer to know how to update BIOS.
Note: Modifying BIOS/ complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly.
Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the configuring
of BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved.

Method 3: If the laptop runs properly when connected to the adapter without battery, then the battery has most likely become faulty.
Remove the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord from your Dell Inspiron laptop, press and hold the
power button for 20 seconds to discharge any residual current inside the laptop.
This clears your RAM and is like a hardware reset.
Replace the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord and turn your laptop on and check.
It is possible that some mechanical damage could have occurred during the battery inserting process.
Look for bent pins or broken connectors.
It is good that you checked the manual as well as the dell website.
After doing the above, call Dell tech support.
