After SP1 install, ipod gets corrupted and won't sync [Solved]

After SP1 install, ipod gets corrupted and won't sync

After installing SP1, I plug in my iPod.
iTunes then reports that the iPod is corrupt and has been put into restore mode.

I try to restore, but it doesn't work and gives an error.

I then restore the iPod on my XP laptop.
this works fine.

I have repeated this process several times.
Sometimes the iPod doesn't get corrupted, but the sync freezes and has to be killed.
The iPod then either isn't recognised, or is once again reported as corrupt.

This problem goes away as soon as SP1 is uninstalled.

I first installed SP1 a few months ago, got this problem and uninstalled.

I tried again last week thinking I could work around the problem by installing iTunes into XP Mode.
This didn't work either, so I've uninstalled SP1 again.

I've read a lot about SP1 causing a variety of problems for a large number of users.
Does anyone know what it is about SP1 that is causing this?

Thanks

Hi,

Method 1:
When a device is not working properly, Device Manager will also usually display an error message with an accompanying error code.
Firstly, check for any errors in device manager, to do this, follow the steps:

Check for any error message displayed
a.            Click on ‘Start’ button, click on ‘Control Panel’, and then click on ‘Device Manager’.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
b.   In Device Manager, locate ‘USB’ ports drives and then double-click the device name.
c.   If an error code has been generated, the code appears in the Device Status box on the General tab

Let us know if any error messages are displayed.

Method 2:
Check if the drivers for Universal Serial Bus (USB) devices are installed properly in device manager and the status.  If not installed properly uninstall and reinstall the drivers.
Uninstall the drivers from the Device manager
a.     Click ‘start’
b.     Type ‘devmgmt.msc’ in Start Search and press ‘Enter’
c.     In ‘Universal Serial Bus controllers’ you will find the devices, ‘right click’ on it and select the option ‘uninstall’.
d.     4.’ Restart’ the computer and check.

If still the issue persists I would suggest you to contact Apple help support forum for further assistance, refer the link:

Hope this helps.

Manually editing the Windows registry

Manually editing the Windows registry to remove invalid MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION keys is not recommended unless you are PC service professional. Incorrectly editing your registry can stop your PC from functioning and create irreversible damage to your operating system. In fact, one misplaced comma can prevent your PC from booting entirely!

Caution: Unless you an advanced PC user, we DO NOT recommend editing the Windows registry manually. Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall Windows. We do not guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To manually repair your Windows registry, first you need to create a backup by exporting a portion of the registry related to MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION (eg. Windows Operating System):

  • Click the Start button.
  • Type "command" in the search box... DO NOT hit ENTER yet!
  • While holding CTRL-Shift on your keyboard, hit ENTER.
  • You will be prompted with a permission dialog box.
  • Click Yes.
  • A black box will open with a blinking cursor.
  • Type "regedit" and hit ENTER.
  • In the Registry Editor, select the Error 0x9C-related key (eg. Windows Operating System) you want to back up.
  • From the File menu, choose Export.
  • In the Save In list, select the folder where you want to save the Windows Operating System backup key.
  • In the File Name box, type a name for your backup file, such as "Windows Operating System Backup".
  • In the Export Range box, be sure that "Selected branch" is selected.
  • Click Save.
  • The file is then saved with a .reg file extension.
  • You now have a backup of your MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION-related registry entry.

After reinstalling Windows 7, unable to install Service Pack 1 for Win7 Home Premium X64, getting error 800B0100

I recently re-installed Win7 / restored to factory image.
since starting over, I have not been able to successfully use windows update to install Service Pack 1 & about 10 other "important" updates.
I have meticulously scrolled through similar questions/help
topics on here but to no avail.
I've tried the system readiness tool, all of the relevant FixIT scans, tried installing one update at a time, windows update troubleshooters etc.
all of the aforementioned suggestions seemed to help those w similar problems
but not me.
I don't have a physical copy of windows nor did I download it.
came preinstalled on my HP Pavilion Elite (HPE-410f) that is only 1.5 years old.
never had this problem in the past.
if someone could please assist me, I would greatly appreciate it.
very frustrating to not be able to update windows, especially lacking Service Pack 1.
thanks for your help!
